ICSTCC Heritage and Evolution
Three Decades of Excellence in System Theory, Control and Computing
The International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC) represents over three decades of sustained scientific collaboration, academic leadership, and international engagement in the fields of systems engineering, automation, and computing. The 2026 edition marks the 30th anniversary of a conference that has become a cornerstone of the control systems and computer engineering community in Romania and an increasingly visible platform at the international level.
ICSTCC was established as a strategic initiative to unify several long-standing and complementary scientific meetings organized by leading Romanian technical universities. These foundational events included:
- SINTES – International Conference on System Theory and Control
- SACCS – International Symposium on Automatic Control and Computer Science
- SIMSIS – International Symposium on Modelling, Simulation and Identification Systems
- CONTI – International Conference on Technical Informatics
By integrating these conferences into a single, coherent forum, ICSTCC created a unique interdisciplinary platform where researchers, engineers, and practitioners could present advances spanning system theory, control engineering, modeling and simulation, and computer science.
From its earliest editions, the mission of ICSTCC has been to bring together specialists from academia and industry to discuss state-of-the-art developments and emerging trends while fostering long-term professional collaboration and research partnerships.
A National Collaboration with International Reach
ICSTCC is distinguished by its collaborative organizational model. The conference is jointly organized by major Romanian universities with strong traditions in automation and computing, including institutions from Craiova, Iași, Galați, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, and Bucharest.
This distributed leadership has enabled ICSTCC to rotate its hosting responsibilities across multiple academic centers, strengthening national research cohesion while ensuring regional accessibility and international visibility. Across its successive editions, the conference has been hosted in prominent academic and scientific venues throughout Romania, contributing to thedevelopment of a strong and interconnected research ecosystem in systems and control.
IEEE Technical Co-Sponsorship and Scientific Impact
A major milestone in the conference’s evolution was the establishment of technical co- sponsorship by the IEEE Control Systems Society, beginning in 2010.
This partnership significantly increased the international recognition of ICSTCC and ensured the dissemination of conference proceedings through the IEEE Xplore Digital Library and other major indexing services.
Through rigorous peer review, high-quality technical sessions, invited presentations, and special sessions addressing emerging topics, ICSTCC has continually reinforced its role as a credible venue for presenting advances in system theory, control engineering, and computing technologies.
Sustained Mission and Community Building
Over nearly three decades, ICSTCC has maintained a consistent commitment to:
- Promoting interdisciplinary exchange between systems theory, automation, modeling, simulation, and computing;
- Encouraging collaboration between academia and industry;
- Providing opportunities for early-career researchers and doctoral students to engage with international experts;
- Supporting the dissemination of innovative research addressing rapidly evolving technological challenges.
Each edition continues the tradition of offering a forum where new theoretical developments, methodological advances, and applied solutions can be discussed within a collegial and collaborative scientific environment.
Celebrating the 30th Anniversary
The 30th anniversary edition of ICSTCC represents more than a chronological milestone; it reflects the enduring commitment of the Romanian and international control and computing communities to scientific excellence, partnership, and innovation.
From its origins as a federation of respected national conferences to its current status as an internationally recognized IEEE technically co-sponsored event, ICSTCC continues to evolve in response to emerging research challenges, including intelligent systems, cyber-physical infrastructures, autonomous technologies, and data-driven control.
Looking forward, the conference remains dedicated to strengthening global collaboration and advancing the frontiers of system theory, control, and computing for the benefit of both academia and industry.
